A real college experience is guaranteed to all Nevada State High School (NSHS) students, and our college tours are part of this reality! This year, NSHS partnered with Nevada Bound for a college tour trip our students will never forget.
On September 23rd, our Renegades had the chance to travel to the one and only University of Nevada, Reno to experience a day in the life as part of the Wolf Pack.
The day kicked off with our commute to the university. Our Southern Nevada students caught a flight to Reno with Nevada Bound representatives while our Northern Nevada made the short journey to the campus. Once connected, students travelled to the Joe Crowley Student Union for the first activity of the day, an “Academic & Resource Tabling” session. Here, students had the freedom to wander around the ballrooms and discover all the glorious programs UNR has to offer. Representatives from each college, office, and organization on campus—including the School of Business, ROTC, Study Abroad, and more— were a part of this session. Each campus representative had their own table and were able to chat with students and answer questions. This was an excellent opportunity for Renegades to absorb information and consider their future endeavors at the university.
Students then gathered for the Admissions & Financial Aid Presentation, introduced by UNR’s Director of Admissions. This presentation reviewed important information regarding admission into the university and the cost of attending. Potential scholarships and various forms of financial aid were outlined for students as they took notes and asked questions.
Following the presentation, UNR hosted college-specific breakout sessions. Students had the chance to select the college of their choice for this session, allowing them to to hear more in-depth information about specific majors and education pathways. The staff and faculty of each school met with prospective students to discuss academic interests and answer any questions. This was a great opportunity for Renegades to take ownership of their education and determine the best route for them!
After hearing from specific colleges, it was time to take a tour of the beautiful, newly renovated campus! The buildings and scenery are some of the things at the University of Nevada, Reno that you do not want to miss. Students had the chance to see iconic buildings such as the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, Ansari Business Building, The Quad, and the state-of-the-art E. L. Wiegand Fitness Center. In addition, NSHS also had the chance to explore the residence halls across the campus. Dorms are an exciting advantage to living on campus, so students looked forward to getting a glimpse at their potential living quarters during the Residence Hall Tour. Overall, the campus tours allowed students to feel a sense of comfortability with UNR as a possible choice for their undergraduate institution, and our Renegades loved the grounds!
The Nevada Bound trip was surely a memorable experience for our dual-credit students. They explored a campus that they could possibly call home in the near future! College tours are just one of many opportunities Nevada State High School offers students to prepare them for a seamless transition from high school to college.
