Nevada State High School (NSHS) prides itself on developing students academically, personally, and socially. Social engagement is an important component of successfully transitioning students from high school to college. One way that NSHS ensures its graduates are ready for the social environment college campuses offer is by requiring participation in social events. Students earn points throughout the school year by participating in a wide variety of events, contests, and activities. The NSHS Social Event calendar is designed to encompass several themes including Art & Culture, Outdoor & Physical Events, Community Service, Academics & Career, and Personal Development.
We are thrilled to offer nearly 50 social events and activities for our students in Fall 2022! Some of our crowd favorites are back and we have several exciting new events on the calendar as well. Let’s dig in and see what students can look forward to this term!
Fan Favorites
We would be remiss if we did not include some of our fan favorite events to the Fall ’22 calendar. These events have evolved into NSHS traditions and are highly anticipated by students and staff alike.
The NSHS Zion Trip & College Tour
One of the hottest events of the year is the annual 3-day trip to Zion National Park. Fifty lucky students get to attend the Zion Trip each October. Students and staff make their way to Utah for a 3-day adventure. The first stop is St. George Utah to visit Utah Tech University and Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. Next, the caravan makes it way to the Ponderosa Resort at Zion National Park. Students have a blast participating in the Zion Olymics, excursions, hikes, and campfires while on the resort. Activities and excursions include canyoneering, horseback riding, paint ball, and more! On day three, students—who by now are filled with s’mores and new memories—receive their Zion superlative awards before heading home. To register for the 2022 Zion trip Oct. 28th – 30th, students must sign up on Canvas in the Social Events & Opportunities Course!
Sessions 4 Success
Sessions 4 Success are classic events at NSHS that help new and returning students meet school requirements, such as the submission of require documents. Our Parent Performance Review (PPR) Session 4 Success prepares students to meet with their parents to discuss their academic progress. Led by Student Success Advocates (SSAs), students learn about the PPR process and can even role play conversations with their peers. Students receive social points for attending these informative events and can even earn a higher scorecard score by turning in their documents early! Sessions 4 Success events take place at all NSHS Campuses. Students will be able to register on Canvas in the Social Events & Opportunities Course as the dates approach.
Brand New Events
Life Skills Series
Did we already mention that NSHS aims to develop well-rounded students? That’s right! To help students build their personal responsibility, a new Life Skills Series has been added to the event calendar. This series includes three parts: Pt. 1 Car Maintenance, Pt. 2 Cooking, and Pt. 3 Planning. In our car maintenance session, students will learn how to change a car battery, jump start a vehicle, and change a car tire! This event will take place in the Henderson: Flagship Campus parking lot and will be led by handy NSHS staff members. During the cooking session, students will participate virtually from the comfort of their own kitchens. Students will receive an ingredient list ahead of time and follow along with basic recipes that they can keep in their back pocket for college cooking in the future. You don’t want to miss this delicious opportunity! The third life skills workshop will focus on planning. Led by Cristal Victoria Consulting, students will learn how to strategically plan their week, set goals, and manage their time. Students are encouraged to bring a paper planner or digital planner to this event (as well as any supplies or stickers that will make their planner spread their own). The Life Skills Series is spread throughout the semester, so be sure to check Canvas daily to RSVP!
Homecoming Dance
You’ve asked and we’ve delivered! NSHS is having its first homecoming dance for Southern and Northern Nevada this fall! Homecoming will be planned by the SUNSHS Prom Committee, led by Vice Chair Krystal Ramos from the Downtown Henderson Campus. Dance the night away and enjoy sweet treats with your friends. Tickets will be sold on Canvas for those who wish to participate in this exciting event.
Don’t miss the fun!
From dodgeball tournaments to talent shows, there is something for everyone to look forward to this fall! All events and activities will be posted to Canvas for students to RSVP. Check Canvas daily so you don’t miss out on the fun!
