School Choice Week 2022 took place nationwide from January 23rd – 29th. Nevada State High School students and staff had a blast celebrating School Choice Week and getting the word out about our program.

Bowlie Hawkins Kickoff!
We began School Choice Wek with a bang at Bowlie Hawkins! Over 350 students attended our kickoff event at The Orleans Bowling Center in Southern Nevada and the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. The Student Union of Nevada State High School (SUNSHS) hosted a scarf and swag giveaway, painting the bowling alleys School Choice Week yellow! Students shared why they chose NSHS on Instagram stories and bowled their hearts out with their peers.

School Choice Week Fair!
Members of the Executive Leadership Team–Mrs. Cristal Porter, Dr. Jesse Welsh, and Dr. John Hawk–attended the Southern Nevada School Choice Week Fair on Saturday January 22nd at the Convention Center of Las Vegas! The School Choice Week Fair was a wonderful celebration of educational options. Students and families were able to enjoy a wide array of performances and visit with representatives of charter, private, and online schools from across the Valley. The Avengers made an appearance, folklorico dancers graced the stage, and every guest received a signature, yellow School Choice Week scarf!

Door Decorating Contest!
In celebration of school choice week, our Renegades participated in a friendly campus competition: a door decorating contest! Each campus submitted their door design and headed to Instagram to vote for their favorite entry! The Las Vegas Downtown Campus took the win after impressing their peers with their unique design.

School Choice Week Photo Submissions!
Why do our students and staff love Nevada State High School? They told us themselves with video and photos submissions throughout the week. Sporting School Choice Week swag, students shared why they chose to be a NSHS Renegade:
“I chose NSHS to have a better understanding of college. I thought NSHS looked interesting. And I could tell they cared about their students. I figured if I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my future then why not try a high school/college program to see if I was interested in college. NSHS is a great opportunity for a head start.” – Paige Fuhs
“I chose NSHS because I wanted to prioritize my education and work on myself by enrolling in a dual credit program. This school pushes students to put in their all to achieve their academic goals while improving their social skills. I also chose NSHS because this school benefits students with two years of free college courses and helps them along the way.” – Katie Flores
“NSHS has been the best experience and I would recommend the school to any that is curious about going. I choose NSHS because it challenged me and gave me the opportunity to get college classes and credit in high school. NSHS has taught me many life lessons like time management, staying organized, working hard, and more. Overall, I have loved my experience so far at NSHS.” – Ty Nielson
“I chose NSHS because they help students excel through high school and towards an associate degree. NSHS has strong core values and the vision for every student to succeed in college.” –Jada Carter
“I chose Nevada State High School because I knew it would push and challenge me towards my goal of graduating early to eventually own my own business. Also taking these college classes as a junior in high school, helps me get prepared for when I go out-of-state for college.” – Hope Strickland
“NSHS opened up many opportunities for me that will surely improve my future. It encouraged me to do even better in school. I love the fact that NSHS pays for the tuition of college courses.” – Ahtziry Diaz

Open Houses!
The purpose of National School Choice week is to empower families to take their student’s education into their own hands. During School Choice Week, we hosted two open houses—a virtual and in-person option—for families to learn about our real college experience and decide if NSHS is the right fit for them! Our in-person open house was hosted at the beautiful Henderson: Flagship location on Thursday January 27th. Guests enjoyed refreshments as they toured the campus and discussed NSHS’s curriculum, core values, and our proven process for transitioning students socially, academically, and personally to college.
