Our Las Vegas: Sunrise and Las Vegas: Downtown locations have recently become sort of a team. Dr. Deborah Whitmoyer is the Director of Site Administration for both locations after taking over the Las Vegas: Downtown location during winter break of the 2019-2020 school year. She immediately made an impact tying both locations together with her leadership.
Las Vegas: Sunrise is located in the Sunrise Manor neighborhood of Las Vegas at the intersection of Carey and Lamb making it our most northeastern location in Southern Nevada. Sunrise became Nevada State High School’s fourth Southern Nevada location after opening for the 2018-2019 school year. Alongside Dr. Whitmoyer, Ms. Rachel Maatallah is the Educational Advising Coordinator at the Sunrise location.
Las Vegas: Downtown is located inside the Latin Chamber of Commerce building at the corner of 13th Street & Stewart and is the only charter high school located in Downtown Las Vegas. This location was started as an incubator in 2016-2017 and became our third Southern Nevada location. The Latin Chamber of Commerce has been an incredible partner and supporter of Nevada State High School’s mission of supporting students in a college environment personally, academically, and socially. Ms. Lisa Holguin is the Educational Advising Coordinator at our Las Vegas Downtown location.
The environment that Dr. Whitmoyer, Ms. Maatallah, and Ms. Holguin have built at Sunrise and Las Vegas: Downtown becomes even more apparent when you speak with students. Jada Jenkins, a student at our Sunrise location shares her thoughts: “Although Sunrise is one of the smaller campuses, that does not make it any less fun or rewarding to attend. The staff is very attentive to the students. It’s super easy to make friends at Study Skills, and we have lots of fun activities at Sunrise. Students can relax and easily meet up with new students or students they already know.”
