Nevada State High School gives me high school credit for the college classes I’m taking. Meaning I get to earn both high school and college credit at the same time! Students that come to NSHS graduate with a huge advantage because before we are even done with high school, we get a real college experience. Here are the four of the best benefits of participating in NSHS’s dual enrollment.
Save Money
College can be very expensive with tuition, fees, textbooks, supplies, and room & board expenses. On average, one year at a higher education institution in Nevada could cost more than $5,000. By attending NSHS, I have saved thousands of dollars in college tuition because they pay for my college tuition and fees! Attending NSHS has allowed me to complete two years of tuition-free college, and I’m currently on track to earn an Associate of Business degree at the same time as my high school diploma.
Save Time
Students who are serious about going to college can save lots of time by attending NSHS. On average, students that attend NSHS for the entirety of both their junior and senior year graduate with 50 college credits – some even earn more, like me! I started with NSHS at the beginning of my junior year and I will end up graduating with 61 college credits and an Associate of Business degree! This program has saved me two years of college– I’ll be able to get started in my career two years earlier!
Increased Freedom
NSHS students are real college students, meaning my junior and senior years of high school were also my freshman and sophomore years of college. NSHS provides me a real college experience which includes giving me the flexibility of planning my own schedule just like any other college student. I no longer had to go to school from 7am-2pm. I was able to build a class schedule that gave me to the freedom and flexibility to be able to pick up my younger sister from school, work as a marketing intern, hang out socially with my friends, and still earn 61 college credits! This added freedom has given me the tools to successfully transition into a college environment as an independent and resourceful student.Â
Taking both In-Person and Online Classes
At NSHS, I’ve had the opportunity to take both in-person and online classes, and this opportunity is a huge reason why I’m able to have a flexible schedule, but it is also another reason why I feel extremely prepared for college after NSHS. In college, some classes only have an online option and they are very different from in-person classes. I’ve also been able to experience what it’s like taking an in-person class taught by a college professor and in a college classroom, which is very different than my high school classes. I’m thankful that I got to take these classes for the first time while I’m with NSHS because they had given me the support system I needed! Also, achieving success in these class environments has given me a lot of confidence and a solid foundation to build upon for even more success in the future!
