Early College, Dual Credit High School’s seventh location aims to support underserved students
Henderson, Nev.
– Nevada State High School (NSHS) recently opened its seventh location in the booming Water Street District of downtown Henderson. This is a homecoming for NSHS as this new site is located in the exact same building and suite as its first standalone campus that opened in 2005. “We’re incredibly excited about our Downtown Henderson location and look forward to engaging an underserved population of students in the Henderson area with our early college model,” said Dr. John Hawk, chief operations officer at NSHS. “Our model has a proven process for successfully transitioning students to college and we’re proud to offer families a program to save time and money for their children’s college education.”
Operating under a dual-credit model, NSHS allows juniors and seniors to complete high school while simultaneously receiving credit towards college degrees in a real college setting. The school’s newest location will target underserved students in the greater Henderson area and first-generation college students who may have otherwise been unable to attend college due to financial restrictions. The school will use its mission to support students in a college environment with personal, academic and social skills to advance student success.
The grand opening of the new Downtown Henderson location is scheduled for Thursday, March 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and is open to the public. The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a tour of the space and remarks from partners, staff, and students. There will be an informational open house immediately following the grand opening celebration for prospective students to learn more about NSHS. Online registration for the Fall 2020 semester is now open at www.earlycollegenv.com for current sophomores and juniors interested in attending.
