Nevada State High School (NSHS) is not your typical dual-credit program. We provide our students a real college experience. Our students take real college classes on real college campuses taught by real college professors. This sets us apart from other schools and makes us the best school in Reno.
Nevada State High School Offers Free College Courses
Yes, you read that right. Our students get a head start on college coursework; tuition free! This can save students THOUSANDS of dollars in college tuition! Our students save anywhere from $2,000 to $50,000 depending on where they continue their college education. This makes a college education attainable to students who may feel they cannot afford the growing cost of attending college.
But we don’t stop there! We also teach our students how to save money while they continue their college education beyond Nevada State High School. They learn the best practices on scholarship writing, applying for financial aid, and how to manage their money to allow them to pay all expenses related to going to college.
Nevada State High School by the Numbers

Our students average a 21.6 on the ACT.
College Courses You Can Take at the Best School in Reno
At Nevada State High School, our students are fully integrated college students. They take courses at real colleges and universities that count for both high school and college credit. Our students complete the NSHS Academic Plan to plan and create their own schedule from available college courses.
We provide unparalleled support for our student’s transition into college personally, academically, and socially. One aspect of that support is the coursework we provide when students first enroll at NSHS. During their first semester, they take three NSHS support classes and are limited to taking three college classes. We’ve found this to be the best schedule for our students.
Below is an example of a typical first semester schedule for a junior:
- Math – college course (level based on college placement test)
- English – college course (level based on college placement test)
- S. History or Government – college course
- Introduction to College – NSHS elective (two weeks before school)
- Study Skills – NSHS elective (two days a week for two hours)
- Transitions – NSHS elective (once a month for a full day)
