On Thursday, March 7, Nevada State High School (NSHS) celebrated the grand opening of its fifth location in Southern Nevada. Located at 2425 North Lamb Boulevard in the Sunrise neighborhood, the new site gives students in northeast Las Vegas the opportunity to earn college credits for free and get a head start on their college education.
The official grand opening event was packed with prospective families and community stakeholders. In attendance were NSHS staff members and students; several alumni; NSHS board members Nohemi Garcia, Saul Wesley, and Laurie Nanni; and Frank Canales of the Latin Chamber of Commerce.
Attendees enjoyed food and snacks and had a chance to tour the space and mingle before the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was conducted by NSHS’s partners at the Latin Chamber. The Henderson Chamber of Commerce also provided a congratulatory certificate for the occasion.
After the ceremony, all prospective families in attendance stayed for informational meetings led by NSHS staff members in both English and Spanish. Families learned about how NSHS operates, heard from current students, and were able to ask any questions they had about the school.
NSHS’s Sunrise location is currently serving 35 students for the Spring 2019 semester, with the capacity to serve 200 students next year. Online registration for the 2019–2020 school year is now open at http://earlycollegenv.schoolmint.com for current sophomores and juniors who are interested in attending.
