I am sure you want to be more efficient and productive on how to get your homework done faster – especially if you are attending a Las Vegas charter school. Sometimes fast is not always possible or in your best interest, so it is best to prepare yourself with reasonable expectations of how long you should be spending on your homework. Here is a rule of thumb: one hour in class should equal 20 min. of study/homework outside of class for high school students and in college or advanced courses that ratio should one hour in class should equate to one hour outside of class on study/homework. Rushing to get homework done faster and maintaining those ratios are two competing interest. So, in this case, let’s just assume that you have a finite amount of “homework” and you want to get it done faster; then follow these easy tips.
Isolate yourself from distractions
Shut down your phone and get to a place where you will not be bothered by alarms, people, or other unnecessary distractions. Perhaps you could go to the library or find a time at your house where the television is off and no one is home. A distraction could be eating, so it is highly advised to eat before you work on getting your homework done.
Set a timed goal for completing your homework
This tip is akin to research that has been done in the workplace showing that people are the MOST productive before going to lunch and at the end of the day. The reasoning is simple, goal-oriented people usually think like this, “I want to get this done before lunch and that done by the end of the day.” Essentially, people have interruptions and distractions and will see that they have one hour before lunch or the end of the day and become ultra-focused at completing their goal. Similarly, if you set a goal for getting homework done in 1 hour, then you will push yourself to get moving sooner and with more focus – you will be even more focused during the last 10 – 15 minutes of reaching your timed goal.
Build a support group
Getting unstuck is the most important part of learning. There are several resources, web pages, videos, and hotlines to help you get unstuck and you will need to discover those avenues before getting started on your homework so start getting organized. What’s more, you can develop a group dependable individuals that are reliable with advice on a particular subject matter and the best place to start is by having three to four people from your class that you can call/text in a pinch. Interestingly enough, your parents and/or relatives are a great resource too, but remember that they are not in the class and it may take them time to get up to speed on your question. If your school offers tutoring, then perhaps you want to work near the tutoring center to drop in for help when you are stuck.
You can get homework done faster by following the tips above and better prepare yourself for future learning.
