You seriously changed my life
2013 graduate finishing Bachelors of Business Management at UNR
Dr. Wendi Hawk,
I have sat down to write this email to you what feels like ten times. I wanted to take the time to update you on where I am and where I am going all thanks to your support and guidance.
I just finished my second year up here at Nevada and honestly it has been one of the best decisions I ever made to attend this University. I am four courses away from graduating, but will be graduating next spring due to my extra circular commitments. I am enrolled as a Business Management major with Spanish minor. My courses have allowed me to tour and explore Toronto and New York City as part of the Nevada Global Business Program.
I am way too involved on campus, but would you expect anything less? I serve as the President of the Business Student Council for the College of Business Dean’s office. In this role I have been planning BusinessWeek 2015, September 21-25th. This week of events and activities is centered on promoting the College to the campus and the Reno Community. I also will be throwing the “Road to TEDx” a student speaker competition in which the winner will be speaking at TEDx Unviersity of Nevada. I was recently selected to MC TEDx Unviersity of Nevada, and to say I was nervous would be an understatement.
I joined a sorority this past year as well. I am currently the Chief Financial Officer of Kappa Alpha Theta, Beta Mu chapter. This definitely has pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me how to get 160 women to listen for extended periods of time. I love the chapter and will be moving into the Theta house this fall.
I work for the College of Business Student Outreach Center as a Career Events Specialist which is fancy language for planner of networking receptions, the Career Fair, and running the online job board for the University.
In an effort to be more rounded, I also ran for the elected position of Senator for the College of Business for the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN). This position is demanding to say the least, but has given me the opportunity to be civically engaged and plan events on campus that deal with diversity, health, and political involvement.
This fall, I will be applying for the Outstanding Senior Award for the College of Business as well as the Order of Omega Award from the Nevada Panhellenic Council. These are both taxing on my typing abilities but I am excited to see how I measure up to other seniors.
I have also been planning my life after graduation. The current plan is to move to Southern Methodist University and get a Master’s of Science in Sports Management. This one-year program is the perfect entry into the sports industry in the heart of Texas. I have a few opportunities up here such as the LinkedIn rotational management program and the Theta Educational Leadership Consultant program but neither of those is very appealing to me. Hopefully I stick to taking the GMAT and heading to Texas.
I think that is about it on updates from my end. I am grateful every day that one of my friends complains about English 102 or CH because I was able to knock those out what feels like forever ago. You seriously changed my life and gave me so many opportunities. Thank you so much for being an influencer, a supporter, a boss, and a mentor.
I attached some photos documenting my fun!
I hope to see you soon,
Kelsey E Hannah
