THANK YOU from a former student
Class of 2007
Not sure if you guys remember me or have been keeping tabs on us like you said you would, but this is Erica VanSteenhuyse, and I attended and completed your NSC High School dual credit program in 06-07.
I truly just wanted to thank both of you from the bottom of my heart for creating this school and giving students like me the opportunity to engage in an alternative high school education.
Like many other students, public high school (Silverado High School, specifically), opened up some doors for me to potentially go down the wrong path. The traditional high school structure CLEARLY wasn’t working for me, and I was desperately searching for a different way to complete high school. Fortunately, I found your program through family friends, and it literally changed my life.
I mean this sincerely, and from the bottom of my heart: without your program, I am not sure I would be where I am today.
Today, I am currently living in West Los Angeles in a beautiful apartment by the beach with my boyfriend and puppy who have supported me as work on completing my Master’s Degree in Comparative Theology from Loyola Marymount University. I also work on campus for the JAAR (Journal of the American Academy of Religion), which is a great honor. I am working on my thesis now, and will graduate next May, at the ripe age of only 24 years old. I plan to continue my academic career onto doctoral studies with my main academic goal being eventual professorship.
Again, this achievement, at this young of an age, would have never been possible without you two.
I know you two created this school for this exact purpose, and the fact that you two have done it together is remarkable. Your efforts have truly inspired me, both while I was attending your program, and in the time since. I have never forgotten everything you have done, and you have inspired me to also help students like me to succeed in alternative manners.
I am sure that your work can be tiresome, especially dealing with high school students, but I just wanted to stop by and reassure you that all of the work that you are doing is ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT. THANK YOU!
If there is anything I can do to help support your school, please let me know. I truly do believe in the work that you guys are doing, and would be honored to assist in any way that I can.
Again, THANK YOU BOTH. You are a beautiful couple with a great hearts and intentions and you have been able to manifest this amazing charter school.
I look forward to hopefully hearing back from you guys!
