Dr. Wendi Hawk is the Chief Academic Officer of Nevada State High School (NSHS), a public charter school that provides 11th and 12th grade students with an early college experience. Dr. Hawk’s responsibilities involve academics, curriculum, activities, assessment, and accountability of the NSHS system. Wendi was a former history/special education teacher and school administrator in the Clark County School District after graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1996. By the fall of 2002, Wendi had earned her M.Ed. and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In the fall of 2004, Wendi became the first employee of NSHS in which she was one of five founding members. For the past 12 years, Wendi has been serving as the Chief Academic Officer for the NSHS schools that includes four locations in Nevada. The school has received Exemplary or 5-Star designations from the State of Nevada, and it has been recognized nationally for outstanding student achievement. In the coming years, Wendi looks forward to expanding the NSHS model throughout Nevada and sharing her experience to help other educators get students better prepared for college and beyond.
